View Full Version : Ribbon mic?
I saw on gearslutz that someone was using this mic for overheads in a session. I read here that TP was testing two years ago. Is it coming?

We have a few Ribbons that are coming...so to answer your questions, Yes! We have just been so over worked we have not focused on getting this out, but look to end of 1st Q 2009...
Are you still on track for 1st Q?
Are there any clips available to preview?

We are in pretty good shape. We have done extensive tests with vocal, and both electric and acoustic guitar. The mic is really very good. It may be 2nd Q depending on our choice for the final transformer and the factories schedule, but this one is happening and coming soon.
We will get clips up when we can and when we get some real talented people to do them. Our tests come from our singing and playing. Since we all suck, but know the mic is great, we will not put up what we did for our tests just now...

OK Alan, as I might have mentioned in the group buy thread, I'm willing to wait and see what you guys have come up with in the ribbon mic dept. It would be kind of nice, not that it's your obligation, to hear an occasional update on progress...I've looked throughout your website and find nothing on either the SP or Meek pages regarding developing technologies, leaving many fans of your products in the dark and potentially buying another manufacturer's product.
I realize that a curtain-dropping moment is always exciting when new products are released, and the threads here on the board are somewhat informative (Thanks Ted and Harvey for sharing your "unbiased" impressions of prototype units), but there are a lot of potential customers out there that may not, like me, wait before buying that newfangled gadget from someone else simply because they had no idea that you were developing one...Not everyone subscribes to every board...
I guess I'm suggesting an "in the works" or "coming soon!" page on the SP and Meek sites...It would be wonderful to have an idea of what to expect from you...

Ive been telling our marketing people the very same thing! I have been out of the daily operations of the business for quite a while now, and I know we are always busy with so much stuff, but we do know our web sites need more attention, and I agree with what you are saying..... One problem however, we have had bad experiences with releasing info and F(*$ing up on the promised ship dates as a result of "unexpected issues".
So we really want to keep a lid on things until the stuff is in the warehouse and ready to go...With that said, I see your side and will suggest this to Marketing.

Yes, I can understand that. My day gig has nothing to do with recording or manufacturing, but it does have a lot to do with making claims of quality, schedule and cost to the customer...Sometimes with disasterous results. I think, though, that a pretty equitable compromise can be found, maintaining a well-informed (and eager) customer base and at the same time making no promises you can't possibly know whether you can keep (prices and release dates).
A regularly updated website, not just an online brochure, will without a doubt attract regular viewership, especially those of us who are excited to see what you have cooking in the lab. Just look at what a "group buy" thread did to wake up membership in the forum. Only hitch is that, once committed, you HAVE to maintain a regular update schedule, or you will lose ground again.
I'd suggest a product and company specific blog...

Thank you. I can't say what a regular update on product development will do for sales, but I doubt it will hurt you any...

Unfortunately, whether you care to admit it or not, YOU are the Marketing Department. Yours is the name and face that the public sees in forums and at shows.
In this "New Age" of networking, you need to have someone out there representing the company - with as much knowledge about the products as you have. Over the time that I've known you, you have built up a reputation for being brash, honest, and concerned about the quality of your products. Yeah, you've taken a lot of heat for it, but a lot of people admire you for treating your customers right.
But now, it's time for somebody else at PMI to take on that public mantle, so that you can concentrate on moving the company forward.

It's been a fuzz near a year since the last post on this subject.
Judging from the quality of the SP and Meek products I own, I can only imagine the MONSTERS you folks at PMI could potentially be--If only you weren't so busy not exposing yourselves.
So, a question; Is there an SP or Meek ribbon or is there not?
Ted Perlman supposedly test-bedded SP ribbon mics in July of 2-0-0-6. I know we don't keep score in America anymore, but that's 4 years, give or take a month. The market for them is saturating.

Yes, there is a ribbon...Is it coming out or not...I don't know. Tonelux and Trident Audio have taken us over with work and it progressing nicely. Brent is working on the ribbon project with the "Mad Russian" and there seems to be a good deal of things to work out before it can move forward....
