My son Alex recorded the vocals on this song with the SP T3.
The artist is Liz Williams, from her new album "Senseless":
Just Another Typical Hey Day (http://itrstudio.com/LizWilliams.mp3)

Harvey,
Great singer, great tone....great song. I just wish she left the scat out and tossed in a guitar solo...but she can sing her ass off!!!!!
Good job by Alex as well. Next week, we are sending you a mic that is a T3 but modified with a Cinemag transformer. We want you to compare it and tell us what you think

Alan,
Is it likely that the cinemag trannie would be available to anyone wanting to mod/upgrade their T3?

Yes, Brent can tell which model, but we are still testing it. So far it is pretty impressive and we may end up doing mods or offer it as a T4...It is pretty good. I want Harvey and Alex to use it, then it goes to Jim Messina and then I will ask Ted Perlman to try it. Once we get all thumbs up, we will offer it.

BTW, the sax on that song was recorded using a Shure SM7; all the other horns were recorded using the SP T3.

Harvey..I just spent the entire weekend with this T3 in the studio. We are making it ready to ship to you today or tomorrow, so be on the lookout. It is one smooth puppy, but I am looking forward to you and Alex's opinions on it

Alex loves it!!! Says it's much warmer and smoother than the original T3. A little less sizzle on the high end, but a winner. Several groups have already used it and love it.

Thanks Harvey, the only question is the cost as the Cinimag transformer is what is expensive...So, should it be a new model, get rid of the old T3 and make a new T3-T or maybe the T-MAG???

Harvey,
Thanks for that update.
Alan,
Here we go......20 questions:D
Going back to my earlier post about upgrading an original T3, what do you consider "expensive" for a cinemag trannie and would I be able to get one from you guys?
Is there any difference between the shockmounts for the C4s and JM27s.........pics on the website looked to be the same thing but with substantially different pricings.
Sticky Mick doesn't appear to be stocking these accessories out here.
OK, last question for now..........have any of you guys compared the T3 (original) to a Rode NTK? Any thoughts?
Cheers,
ChrisO

We have not done any comparisons as in the end they would be our opinion anyway. I just know that the difference take any grumblings away from the nay sayers who continue to say it is harsh and sounds Chinese??? What ever that means!
In principle, the C4 clip is similar, but we did this to get into tighter places that the shock mounts interfered with. I think the C4 clip is much sturdier. Mick is not the only one who does not stock a lot of those accessories....
If you buy the Cinimag in quantity, it gets down reasonable, but still as a company, it would change the price by $100.00, and that is about what we would have to charge, but in the end, it sure is sweet. Question is, at $699.99, what else is out there? AT 3060, RODE K2, GT57...some others? Question is I don't think they will sound as good, but that is also my opinion.
Is it worth it for us to do?

QUOTE......."Is it worth it for us to do?"
Hmmmm............good question.
If you're 100% certain that the cinemag makes a genuinely noticable difference/improvement then I believe you should consider implementing it........either as a DIY retro fit, a factory retro fit (yeah, more work for you guys :) ) or as an alternative model or ultimate replacement to the standard T3..........or any combination of those.
If there are any "nay sayers" who are generally well respected in the industry or for that matter on the major forums, why not give them the opportunity to try a modded T3 out, the worst that can happen is that they won't change their minds, however, if you're right about the mods and they are honest, you may come out well ahead ;) . I know one highly respected (mastering) engineer out here who thinks highly of the T3 but he appears reluctant to say too much publicly
While typing this I've decided to borrow an NTK from a friend and as time allows I will be comparing it to my T3..........just to satisfy my perverse curiousity :D ...........it'll have to be more fun than rewiring the 240V mains power around the studio and finishing the rebuild.
Any chance of being told the model # of that cinemag trannie?

Talking about T3's...........
Alan, there's probably an email floating around PMI from kgirl72 (Kirstin) at HR.com who apart from waiting on a Litz 7 pin cable to replace a "failed" original cable from her T3, is apparently having intermittent problems with the power supply.........from what she told me, it sounds like the power switch might be the issue.
She had been attempting to use the 7 pin cable from her NTK (hence my questions earlier) but it didn't seem compatable.

What was used to record the acoustic guitars?

I believe that Alex used the T3 as well on the acoustic guitars.

Yeah, I think it is on the way to us. We will fix it for her...

I think you should keep the T3 line and add an optional transformer upgraded model like cascade did with their fathead ribbon mic.

I'm ready. The T3 is one of my favorite mics - lead vocals, backgrounds, and even drum overheads. "Creamy" is the best word I can think of to describe it.
BTW, the Toft dual compressor is the BEST compressor for guitars I have heard yet. You can get that fat dbx160x sound, and then have it as clear as my expensive Geoff Daking compressor. Malcolm and you have a clear-cut winner with this model!
