Any news on the ribbons
Yes, I'd like to know as well. The SP ribbon is an amazing and brilliant sounding mic. But I'm going to have to buy another brand because once I heard what a ribbon can do with percussion and electric guitars, I had to have that tool in my mic cabinet. PLEASE tell me and the others here when your great mics are going to be released!!!!!

I think there are two ribbon mics involved. Ted got the expensive mic to test ; I got the less expensive one to test.
The inexpensive mic sounded great, very easy to control proximity effect, and decent output.

Hmm, one of those arbitrary terms...So, are we talking perhaps Nady/Cascade/Shinybox inexpensive? And the other end of the spectrum, maybe Royer/Beyer expensive? Gawd forbid RCA expensive...
I'm in the market for a ribbon as well, but am biding my time...So Alan, you guys have some slack to get it perfect, just not forever...;)
So Harvey, does the prototype you tested compare to any ribbons you've heard that may have soundclips online? I thought the Cascade Fathead was earthy and clean, seemed to hold it's own, right up until I heard it in tandem with an SM57...

This new lower cost ribbon is much more advanced than the stock Nady's, ADK, Apex, and other copies that same mic.
This is designed from the ground up by the Mad Russian that works with us. So, it is several steps above them, and compares more to the Royers in level of quality of sound. I am not saying it sounds the same as Royer, only that the quality of it is at their level.
All we need to do is build them...

<I am not saying it sounds the same as Royer, only that the quality of it is at their levelIt sounds as good as the Royer at a fraction of the cost.
"Mad Russian"? You're Alan Hyatt - the baddest ass playa in the music retail game today. There's nobody you're afraid of. Grab the Russian by his testicles, and tell him that if he doesn't finish the mic VERY SOON, he's going to live out the rest of his life in friggin' Siberia. Watch how fast the mic gets done....
