Hi

I've just seen some posts about a new C1 that will sound slightly different to the older version. But why change something which according to many reviews already sounds like a world class mic?

And doesn't his lead to more confusion? -- I'm now wondering if it would be safer to buy an older version in preference to the newer version which -- who knows -- might lack the sonic quality that made the older version such a hit.

Hi

Your point is well taken, but our way of thinking is if we stop getting better, we should get out of the business. The C1 has been out since late 1999, so we are close to 7 years. Each year we sell more and more of them, so we hope this is a mic that has been embraced by the recording community.

It is being used in all levels from beginners, project studios, Oceanway Nashville, tons of world class players, producers and engineers. As with everything, opinions vary, but we love the C1, and hope it stays a world class mic...

So now, we develop a new shock mount we really like that is way superior to the old one. Then, we have to comply to the new RoHS and WEEE certifications, so we had to make changes anyway. In the end, we are happier with the new C1, but I still use my old C1, and will continue to. I brought a new one home anyway and used it on a recent recording.

So, I don't think it is a matter of preference of old vs. new... The old is now etched into history and the new will carry the ball for the next 7 years. We always strive to make our products better. When we can, we will not look back. We will always be happy with all the products we have made, but technology improves and offers us new things to make better mics. We have to take it!
