Hi
I've heard great things about the C1, and I'm also interested in C3.
Can anyone tell me if the sound of the C1 is indentical to the C3
when the C3 is in the cardiod mode?

Hi
Ive compared both and they are not the same. The C1 is a bit more transparent and a bit more weighted up top as far as the models I had. Also the c1 was a bit more detailed than the c3. Hope that helps. BTW I ended up getting the c1 and got a rode k2 for the multi pattern stuff. They work well together ie MS etc. Its all about colour and contrast...no different to painting!

Very similar, but not identical. This is a result of the added diaphram and electronics on the C3.

I'd just heard about the best compliment the C1 could possibly ever get;
I met up with the guitarist for a pretty well known country artist last night. He told me that they'd just got out of the studio, and he was remarking on the "fact" that when they'd put up the C1 side-by-side with a U-87, no one, including the studio personnel, could tell the difference...That either says a LOT for the SP or very little for the folks present...

Well there is a difference, but ears are a funny thing. Make that statement to some, and its yeah!...C1 rocks...To others its like an insult to compare the C1 with a U87. While there is a lot of similar character, there are many differences.
I love to hear about these stories because it proves my point that any mic is capable of doing a great job, and all they really are is tools....
