Alan,
You mentioned a mod for the ATC-2 compressor over at HomeRecording.com.
"The new FET mod for the compressor is 10dB quieter and the compressor does sound better..."
How can I get this mod?

If you are technical and have test gear to line things up, you can do it. If not, call in for an ATR#, send it in and we will do it for free and send it back to you.

Is this going to be incorporated on new units?
If so, when, and how does one know if the mod has been incorporated?
Thx.

All units that we have shipped over the last 60 days had the mod done to it. All new units in stock have the mod, and all incoming units incorporate it as well.
If you can hear noise when you enguage the compressor on your unit, then it does not have the mod. The noise will go up when you switch the compressor on. If it doess not, then you have the mod.

Hi Alan. I am extremely curious about this mod.
I mentioned on HR a while ago that I adore the ATC-2 although the compressor gives a tad too much noise. I work in retail at a music store in Australia; I was wondering if the guys at Front End Audio/Mixmasters know about this mod? If not, what is required? I could probably get someone to work on the thing.
Is it a part replacement? are they easy to source?
if there is sensitive info involved feel free to email me:

Pete,
Not sensitive at all. We have no trouble in telling people when we find a way to improve our gear. Yes, Rob at Front End Audio knows this mod very well. Parts are easy and cheap. You replace two resistors that are soldered in, so you have to remove them using a de-solder unit and put the new ones in. The, the old FETS are in sockets, so pull them out, and put the new FETS in, but the legs are different so you have to know how to put them in right or rotate the FET so the correct legs go into the correct sockets. Then, just re-calibrate the unit so the meters are correct and off you go.
Right out of the shoot you will fall in love all over again with the compressor. Dead quiet when you switch it in, and it will punch you right in the face when you slam it, but still sweet as sugar when used lightly.... :D
Let me know if I can help you. Rob has all of this as we have a secure web site on line with all of our service manuals and modifications...plus he has done a few already....

you're a champion Alan. Thanks.
I'll speak to Rob or Mick next week and see what can be organised.
Cheers
