Is there a sticky/FAQ/link/etc. to answer my novice questions below (originally posted in the wrong forum).

Remembering, please, that there are no stupid questions (just ignorant slobs):

I've got a 12W x 24L x 8H rectangular room.

How would you go about killing a few annoying room resonances between 60 and 250hz?

Where to you get Rockwool? In what form?

I'm not fussy, not trying to make an anechoic chamber. Just doing takes of acoustic solos or very small acoustic ensembles. The main problem is during mixing.

Great to have the forums back! Thanks much,

Kev

Kevin,

you have a challenge ahead of you - those room dimensions are not what one would consider optimum.

The 24' dimension is an octave below the 12' - and thus will amplify problems with that 12' room mode - you also have the same problem with harmonics - the 8' dimension is a 2/3 harmonic of the 12' and a 1/3 harmonic of the 24'.

All of this will cause problems with room modes on top of room modes.

I'll answer both questions at the same time.

You kill those problems with bass traps. Rockwool works fairly well in this regard.

You can generally purchase this from any reputable lumber yard in your area - also through companies that specialize in selling drywall in your area.

You can also check some mail order companies who sell this product pre-wrapped with fire retardant cloth - here's one who I know and trust......

Glenn sells his products at $45 each for a wrapped 2'x4' panel using 8pcf rockwool.

That company looks really good, and their home page does a good job of explaining why the old 'stick up some foam' system doesn't work in either theory or practice.

I'm having no luck locating a similar supplier in the UK, doing that product at the right price.

Nik,

Have you contacted them to find out if they might be able to work up some sort of deal with you?

No! I might look into it, but it seems a rather inefficient way of getting rockwool into my recording spaces ... all the way across the Atlantic!!!

But they're so cheap compared to ANYTHING pre-assembled I can find over here that it might still be worth it. Thanks for the idea! :)
