Hi, I'm a drummer who's new to recording and looking to get a pair of overhead mics that would sound good on the cymbals as well as the toms. Trying to record the drums with only 4 mics. I know JoeMeek stuff has good reputation but I can't find one review for any of the mics. Should I get a pair of JM47s or JM27s? any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Juda

I tried the JM47 here and I really liked it. I didn't try it on drums, but it's a pretty meaty, mellow mic.

Thanks for the reply hargerst.
"Meaty and mellow", does that mean not too bright on the hi end?

the JM37's don't sound harsh at all. Kelly over at Fender Center (the recording school that Fender and Roland run in Orange County, CA) compares them to his TLM-103.
Now, I'm not saying they're as good as a TLM103, but at that price... to even be mentioned in the same sentence... well you get the point!
The JM27's are very much like MXL 603's. We sell them in a matched pair that also comes with 2 of our HD metal shock mounts and a stereo T bar. I've seen this set (JM27 PAC) as low as $159. That's a pretty screamin' deal for this much gear.
As far as reviews, we expect to get some mics out to the mags shortly. The problem is, it takes MONTHS for reviews to actually make it into the magazine. Far longer than I'm sure you're willing to wait!
Hope this helps!

Yup, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any top end. The top end is nice, but it falls in the range of "darker mics", which is where I also include the Neumann U47.
By way of comparison, I feel that the SP T3 falls in the range of "brighter mics", which is where I also include the AKG C12 and the Telefunken ELA M251.

Thanks again guys, I'll keep all that info in mind before making a decision. I can get a pair of JM27s for $89, I think I may just grab them for that price.
