Hi!
I just received my SixQ and I'm happy with this gear.
Nice sound. Iron sounds to me like some kind of enchancer.
On AKG C2000B it was good to have it on..and to have HPF turned On on SiqQ and off on AKG C2000B (I find HPF on this mic to strong and vocals tend to be thin if set to on) Sound was more crisp with iron and with moderate compression...I noticed that eq is giving some extra bite when put ON even with 0 db gain.
On Neuman U87 it was so not necessary to have iron ON and it was more question of taste to use it or not.
Of course...this is just my first day of using SixQ.

Now I'm reading posts in this forum to gain some more inside about unit.
Manual says that eq is after the compressor but in one thread Alan says that it is pre...
Which one is correct?

Thanks

I think it is after the EQ... Also when driving the compressor...the new Joemeek unit is ten times faster attack then the old one. If you use the attack of the new unit like you use the old unit, you will get a lot of pumping and unusable sounds. A fast attack is very percussive and colored. The slowest attack time on the new Joemeek threeQ is the same speed as the fastest attack time of the old Joemeek unit.

Here is where I suggest you start.

Set your attack time to the slowest point at 100 msec and set the release to its mid point or at 0.3sec. Set the compression control to half way or less.

This is a good starting point. From there, simply start turning the attack time counter clockwise. The more you turn it, the more percussive it will be. You can hear snare drums become tighter and more aggressive. So a fast time for drums is good. A slower time for vocals is better, say about 75msec.

From there make your adjustments as you need them and for less compression, turn the compression down.

Thanks Alan

hmm. strange...
on page 10 sixq user guide:
The compressor is after the preamplifier and the insert point, and before the meequalizer.

later on that page:
The meequalizer is after the preamplifier, the insert point and the compressor.

it is important difference..
if eq is first in the signal path...
they should change it in manual..

Don't the two statements indicate the same thing? EQ at the end, after the compressor.

yes.. they do...
that was point of my question..
I found thread on this forum about sixq and eq pre or post compressor...
http://www.pmiaudio.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-118.html

and in that thread Alan explained that compressor is after eq...

That is not what is writen in user guide of sixq.. so I asked here again.
because..to my knowledge Alan is expert on joemeek....
and now I'm not sure what is the fact eq pre or post compressor :-)
