Hello,

Could you please offer some more technical details about the VTB1 as on your website?

I miss the data about:

- maximum input level (for example, for the ThreeQ a value of +19.5dbu before clipping is provided on the joemeek website)

I think this is a very important info for all users, especially those who already ran into headroom problems with a preamp.
I'm also one of those "canditates", using a Neumann TLM193 with a maximum output level of +13dbu.

And another question:

If I read it right, the VTB1 has either 2000 or 300 ohms input impedance on the mic input. But why is the impedance switch labeled with 200 and 50 ohm?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Ben, the unit is better than +21dB. We use a U87 on it and there is plenty of headroom. The TLM193 as far as I am concerned should have no issues.
As far as the difference on the switch and the print specs, one is the output impedance and the other is the load impedance. So the switch will say 200 Ohms which is the output impedance, and the 2000 ohms in the impedance at the connector.

Hey fellas...

First off, apology up front for quick "thread theivery."

I just bought a VTB-1. So far, me likes what me hears, but then again, I can only compare it to the internal pre's of my roland VS2400. I find that the VTB-1 sounds sterile with the tube blend rolled completely off, but at 12:00, it sounds nice on vocals. I am however most impressed with it on acoustic guitar. I find that 12:00 is too much, 10:00 seems to be the bread-n-butter for me.

My question is this..... I am using the C1 mic and am finding that the output dial is almost cranked for both applications to get a strong enough signal into the recorder. Is this normal for that mic?

And am I correct in thinking that the output dial won't add any distortion to the signal from the VTB-1, only the input will create distortion within the preamp? I realize that the output can still cause distortion at the recorder by sending too hot of a signal, but it doesn't increase the inherent distortion of the outgoing preamp signal does it?

Cheers
Ryan
