ok..since this seems like a general question recording forum, ill just post a question about something i really need explained.. :D

ive been using XLR cables forever, even when i need TRS jacks...i have one of those jack stereo plugs and it does the trick. but right now i really want to start using real TRS to TRS cables to plug into my DMP3, to my korg D1200, and was wondering if the following qualify as TRS balanced jacks..

sorry if this is a weird question, but i never had to look for these before..

many tanx in advance guys!

They *look* like 1/4" TRS cables, but the description seems to indicate they are 3mm or 1/8" mini jacks.

Sorry, my Spanish is limited to "Hola, Dora!"

1/4" jacks are the same size as a guitar cable (although guitar cables are NOT TRS.)

1/8", 3mm, or "mini jacks" are like those on walkman-style headphones, or to plug into a soundblaster card.

I suspect what you want is 1/4" TRS.

Check out this site for some basic cable descriptions:

tanx a lot Ray,

i never knew what ppl meant by tip ring sleeve...there's a second circle..ok now i get it ;)

tanx for the website..my doubt on all this is cause im ordering some, but they're 20ft long, thats too much cabling and will crap out sooner i guess...the store im gettin it from doesnt have smaller, and im ordering a whole bunch of other stuff, so might as well take advantage of the already payed for shipping costs..and then again, its just cable, so im just gonna go with it, what the heck..

with that said, in the future ill look for something smaller...i think this qualifies, but i dont see the second ring (sleeve) in the pic...what do u think?

Well, it says "stereo", which for all intents and purposes means "balanced", and also says "...1/4" TRS... " which is what you need.

It's tough to go by pics, because often they're hard to see, and just plain wrong.

diogo,

TRS cables are used for many reasons. Balanced outputs, or patch cables when you need the tip to be a send, the ring to be a return, and the sleeve a ground.

I will suggest you stay away from the plastic end cables and stick to an all metal jack from switchcraft, Neutrik, or other decent all metal jack. I also suggest you use a better cable than the one pictured for sale at Thomann.

Thomann is a very good store and I am sure they sell some better quality cables than that brand. There seems to be no consistency in those less expensive plastic end cables from one to another.

hey Alan,

tanx a lot. i use balanced all the time, with XLRs, and an adapter that makes it a jack stereo...but i had never felt the need to really buy proper ones...

i stood away and got it from the great folks at frontendaudio...it should be ok.

i only use these thomann plastic end ones for interfacing my stomps between them, as the small cables are handy for that and the pedal board is gettin huge so... :D

but ill take your advice and not get this cabling for any serious aplications ;)

tanx a lot!
