I have a few songs from our "studio" hosted so I figured I'd mention them here.

3 are at http://www.recordingproject.com/media/select.php?mediaid=164 ............A Wedding Song, Butterfly Ride and Suspect Jealousy.

The other is here http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2061&alid=-1 .............Leaving Today.

Butterfly, Suspect and Leaving were done 2 or 3 years ago as demos for my son's band but mixes were never finished due to issues that developed with two band members. Vocals were all with a C1 straight into my Soundcraft 24/8 console.

A Wedding Song........This was done for the singer's wedding last August, he wanted to surprise the bride with a special song for the occassion even though both of them had been married before. We'd been friends for a number of years and as we were already writing and jamming together it was a natural progression.....I wrote the music and he did the lyrics. I basicly produced and engineered the recordings AND for the first time ever I actually recorded myself.......and that was bloody scarey

The wedding was outdoors and the mix was done to reflect this and the fact that it was essentially a backing track for the vocals to be sung over live...........so the vocal track here was put down as a guide so we knew what it would sound like when performed "on the day".

Vocals and flute done with a T3. Some other stuff was B1's and the guitars were with 603's.

Like them or hate them, I hope you enjoy and feel free to comment as we may still go back and do a complete remix sometime in the future.

Hey Chris, I dig what your doing. Ok, they are a few years old, so that means your only better now then you were and they are good.

I like Butterfly...The flute in Wedding song is quite nice. Very good tone...even off what I am listening to.

So, glad you put them up...

Thanks Alan,

I have all the tracks on both 1" tape and h/disk so I may go back sometime and see if I can get a better (yeah, I know that's subjective) mix just for the heck of it. In the meantime our studio sits idle except for an occasional "get together".

Just for the record, I got some comments elswhere about "A Wedding Song" so I thought I'd paste my response here......it may explain a few things about the "ambience" of the mix.

"There's actually "wind" sound from about 0.02 secs for about 3 or 4 secs before the guitar and the quiet beginning was deliberate. The song kind of developed a "medieval" quality as it progressed and I was trying to achieve the sense that it was a group of (travelling) musicians playing outside rather than session guys in a studio............this probably explains your "lo fi and narrow" comment.

Anyways it was a challenge all round........I had never regarded myself as a writer, etc., and the mate hadn't sung for about 10 years although in the 70's and 80's he had stints with two of the bigger bands to come out of the UK................and importantly, his wedding was a blast."
