Just got the pop filter and read the directions - but I didn't understand the line about placement. Perhaps it is just a matter of experimentation but... is there a general guideline on how to space the filter? Like - how far from the vocalist, then how far from the mic?

In a typical vocal recording session using the pop filter, you place the pop filter about 3 inches in front of the microphone. The vocalist can then move forward (right up until their lips touch the filter) or back depending on their mic technique.

Does this answer your question?

No. I have found them to clean up a slightly swirly low end on a vocal, but I haven't found any negative effects. I'm not sure about Alan's theory about using it backwards either, but maybe I need to experiment more with that!! :D

My theory is always right!!!! It acutally does work. One side smooths out the low end... Seriously!
