It's official; my son Alex loves the SP T3 and he's been using it for just about every group's vocals for several months now. One of the more unusual aspects of this love affair with the T3 is that he's letting the singers often hand hold the mic, using the foam windscreen on it. Just thought you'd wanna know that it's really getting a good workout at ITR.

I'm going to give that a try with the handheld idea! Have you replaced the tube in it at all? Just wondering because if anything mine is a little too 'crisp' at times and I wonder if a different tube might help that.

Of course, I could probably just get the singers closer onto the thing, but that'd be easy. :)

Thanks for the heads up Harvey. Ted Perlman just won a Grammy for Burt Bacharach title "At This Time". He used a C1!

I think using a foam filter over it and choosing a different pattern might tame the top end a bit. The "crisp" thingy is also inherent in these mics. Like the old AKG C12, it can be stunning or just bad, depending on the particular voice.

It's been great for a lot of 'pop' vocals I've done recently but I am just thinking about how to get a slightly smoother/more natural sound without having to EQ on the way in - mainly because I don't have much in the way of fabulous hardware EQ at my disposal.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Has anyone compared this mic to the TB1? Just wondering if there are any similarities, depending on how you have the T3 pattern set.

I also wonder if changing the tubes in these could potentially make as big a difference in the sound as it does in a Marshall head? Not that I advocate trying (wouldn't want to mess anything up), just curious.
