What's the history on this piece? I've heard that the older stuff is cooler. It seems that there's a bit of discussion on gearslutz about the SC's, but not any mention of this one. I think it isn't all working right. Should I hire someone to fix it? Is it worth it?

I am trying to remember if this was the unit with the gold lettering or the black? The early VC1's had a better mic amp than the later versions. They were much better than the Current Sense mic amp.
These also had the enhancer which was very useful, but misunderstood. Used correctly, the enhancer could save tracks that many would consider useless. The compressor was good, but no makeup gain, and the ouputs were not really properly balanced.
None of this takes away from the unit. They sound cool and anything that works for you is good....

I have a VC-1 with black lettering, and I'm assuming the lack of any visible mention of "v2.0" means it is the early version.........or am I assuming wrongly? I know the PDF copy of the VC-1 manual I have actually has v3.0 on the cover so where does that fit in?

Thanks Alan, since typing that, I've opened up the back of my racks and found out my VC-1 is v3.**
