I own a firepod, and I`ve been trying to record som D.I bass on it.
I`ve allways used mics in the past but, recently I read an article about some of my faverite Bass tracks from the 70`s prog era was done with DI.
So true to the era I am.
Will Vtb-1 do the job? :)
nad by the way, cool forum.

The VTB-1 does an excellent job for Bass D.I. This is based on my own use and the hundreds of positive comments we get specifically on Bass.

I used to use my VTB-1 as a DI for bass regularly. It's not my first choice these days, but it will certainly do the job well. I'm not sure that you'll find a better bass DI in its price range. (Perhaps a used Countryman Type 85 DI? I haven't personally used one, but they are well regarded.)

Hey Naka! It's noisedude from HR! :)
Erm certainly a VTB-1 would give you what you want and, rather than the Hartke thing I was telling you about, this way you would gain a really useful preamp for your other stuff as well. ;)

While you're looking at "budget" DI's, you might want to consider the new Joemeek threeQ. That FAT optical compressor goes a long ways towards improving bass sound!

I'm confused on this one, guys. Surely it doesn't have the impedance to run as a DI? I love the compressor on the ThreeQ but I'm using a Hartke Bass Attack DI pedal in front of it into the mic input.

Just as an aye vote, I'm using the VTB1 as bass DI now as well. I have a Sansamp and have put it away. I also use a Behri Bass VAmp Pro, which doesn't get used much anymore either (other than live). The VTB1's been giving me a real warmth, though I have had some problems dialing in a Sennheiser 421, which is an orange to your apple.
For bass (and my acoustic w/Ibeam Active), the VTB1's nice and clean, don't use too much of the toob...

I haven't used any of the Sansamp stuff myself ... I assume it's extremely good from what I've read and heard of it. It's not cheap over here though!

Yeah Nik, Tech 21 makes a nice unit...My problem, as with the VAmp, is that I'm not interested so much in bells and whistles and having all the periferral knobs and buttons to deal with. The VAmp is a nightmare getting started on, with all the choices and settings to choose from, and once you get your sound set and stored you have a box full of buttons and knobs that you no longer have use for...
The Sansamp, not so much, and yeah, a nice dial in, but the VTB1 is refreshingly discreet and smooth. The toob is pretty reliable for just the right amount of edge without becoming a gainstage distortion device, ya know? 'Specially for the price!!
